Infraspinatus fatty degeneration

Writer's picture: SonoPedicsSonoPedics

Short axis view of the infraspinatus and teres minor muscles. Left is proximal, right is distal. The infraspinatus muscle presents with decreased size, almost of equal size of that of the teres minor, and cloudy echogenic appearance within the intrasubstance of the muscular tissue.

The long head of triceps tendon appears normal at the enthesis, just below the teres minor muscle.

Findings are in keeping with fatty degeneration/infiltration of the infraspinatus muscle. Concomitant thickness tears of both infraspinatus and supraspinatus were found at their footprints.
