Deep infrapatellar bursitis

Writer's picture: SonoPedicsSonoPedics

Long axis view of the patellar tendon. Left is proximal, right is distal.

The deep infrapatellar bursa presents with distention and anechoic fluid extending proximally to the patella and deep to the Hoffa's fat pad. No hyperaemia was observed when assessed under Power/Colour Doppler.

Findings are in keeping with deep infrapatellar bursitis.

Note that the proximal end of the patellar tendon demonstrates relatively low echogenicity and loss of normal fibrillar pattern, in keeping with patellar tendinosis. No hyperaemia was observed.
