Nektarios is a Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon collaborating with hospitals in Athens, Thessaloniki, and Larisa. He is currently the Director of the 1st Vascular Surgery Clinic IASO Larisa. He studied Medicine at the University of Catania in Italy, where he graduated with distinction. He specialized in Germany, after completing his first specialty in General Surgery. In addition, he specialized in Emergency Medicine and was awarded the corresponding title after completing the assessment process with success in 2006 (Germany). Subsequently, he served as an Emergency Physician from 2006 to 2009 leading over 500 rescue missions.

 

Nektarios worked as Vascular Surgery Consultant at Marienhospital Stuttgart from 2011 to 2016. At the end of 2016, he moved to St. Gallen, Switzerland where he took over as Senior Consultant of the Vascular Surgery Clinic, which is a major center of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery with international recognition, especially in the treatment of complex aortic aneurysms and aortic dissection, peripheral occlusive arteriopathies and carotid disease. Simultaneously, he was the Director of the Vascular Surgery Clinic of the Rorschach Hospital in Switzerland, where he implemented and established modern almost bloodless treatment techniques for varicose veins of the lower extremities as one-day cases. He holds the Swiss Endovenous Ablation Certificate for Varicose Veins (USG).

 

Nektarios has performed more than 3500 surgeries and has trained many specialist doctors in surgical and vascular surgical techniques, both in Germanυ and Swiss. For over a decade, he has been an instructor at one of the largest and internationally recognized schools on vascular surgical methods and techniques, the Vascular International School. He has also participated as an instructor in physician training programmes, such as clinical courses in Vascular Surgery, in the context of preparing vascular surgeons for their final residency exams in both Germany and Switzerland. He is an accredited trainer at the Swiss Ultrasound Society (ICAN-Section, SGUM). From 2021, he has been serving as an external scientific associate at the Institute of Anatomy of the School of Medicine of the University of Athens, where he teaches the Anatomy module to medical students.

 

Nektarios continues to strengthen his international presence by serving as a member of the Editorial Board (Associate Editor) of the international journal Vascular Specialist International and reviewing research articles in international scientific journals (European Journal of Vascular Surgery, Gefässchirurgie). In addition, he holds the Good Clinical Practice Certificates (GCP) which is a requirement for conducting large clinical studies as a researcher. He participated as a Phase 3 Investigator in Voyager PAD and European Carotid Surgery Trial ECST-2 clinical studies.

 

He holds a doctorate from the Medical School of University of Ulm (Germany) and served as tutor in the General Surgery course at the Nursing Schools of Heilbronn and Stuttgart and the Vascular Surgery course to students of the Medical School at University of Tübingen.

 

Nektarios is a full member in the following scientific societies: Hellenic Society of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery (HSVS), European Society of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery (ESVES), German Society of Vascular Surgery and Vascular Medicine (DGG), Swiss Society of Ultrasound (SGUM).

 

Nektarios is our Vascular Sonographer and Scientific Director of our Vascular Masterclasses, where participants will have the opportunity to get theoretical knowledge and hands-on training experience covering the full spectrum of vascular ultrasound, ranging from basics to highly advanced scanning techniques and practices.
